the last couple of weeks

hey all
i finally finished up my first semester of this online grad school thing and found some time to work on these sketch blog sketches. i had done a few little ones but didn't get them anywhere near a level i felt like sharing. i have colored my hawkman, my jim gordan and my harvey bullock. i need to add colors to my hawkgirl, renee montoya and captain marvel. in the spirit of trying to keep up i am going to share with you what i have for these characters anyways and hopefully will update this post later with the final versions of the sketches that need more work. i believe these are sketches for weeks 18 19 and 20 but am not entirely sure anymore. anyways here is some stuff.

Week 20

Here's my Bullock. I decided that he looked good as just a black and white cartoon so I left him that way. He is wearing a mall Santa outfit (like it one of my favorite episodes of Batman: The Animated Series). I also decided to draw him extra cartoony.

Here's also my Hawkgirl. I liked the sketch of her so much that I decided not to color it.

("Where's Week 19, Wes?" You ask. "It's not here" I reply. Anyway, Week 19 will be a little late because I am working on coloring them.)

Lil' Batman Villains Weeks 15-18

Here is the same thing but for the Batman Villains from weeks 15-18. We have Talia and Catwoman getting into an argument (probably over which one Batman prefers) while Ra's al Ghul looks on in embarrassment at Talia's behavior. In the background Zsasz is chasing a dove with a knife ...

Somehow Batman's villains don't lend themselves to this kind of drawing very well...

Lil' JLA Weeks 15-18

Here is this extra sketch because I was upset that I was so late with the last month or so of sketches. I also wanted to color them all so I did this sketch of little kid versions of them.
If it isn't clear, Blue Devil and Firestorm are having a fight, Captain Atom is angry that they are fighting and wants them to stop, and The Atom is laughing at the situation.

Week 15 Captain Atom

Here's Captain Atom from week 15 on the JLA list. It is a picture of modern age Captain Atom hanging his head in shame as some dude makes fun of the dweeb in the painting behind him (unaware that that is a painting of the Golden Age Captain Atom--who is the modern Captain Atom in a different costume)

Yes, I felt the need to explain my sketch. No, I do not think it is good enough to not need a description. Yes, I am sorry that it is late.

Week 15 Catwoman

Here is my Catwoman (Batman list). She is straddling a pedestal with a priceless cat sculpture in a glass case sitting on it. The costume here is some weird amalgam of various Catwoman costumes I have seen.

I don't happen to have my Captain Atom (JLA list) saved on my thumb drive right now so I will have to upload that later.

I really wanted to have timely, colored versions of these last four weeks worth of sketches but that didn't happen. Hopefully I will have a couple of extra posts containing extra sketches (colored) to make up for it.

(Weird punishment for being late, I know. How would making extra pictures be a good idea considering I can't get the "mandatory" ones in on time?)

Week 16

Here are pencil and ink drawings of Ra's Al Ghul (Batman) popping up out of the waters of the Lazarus pit during a refreshing dip in its cool, life-giving waters; and Firestorm (JLA). I was really hoping to color these (and I may later) but they were so late I just needed to get them up here.

So apparently I am a month (?) behind on this thing. That is horrible.

Anyway, I am going to update this in reverse order. These sketches were pencil on memo notebook paper.

images are a lil late cuz i tweaked my wrist last week. i didn't wanna use it too much for fear of something being wrong, ie: chipped bone or broken whatever. it feels better today so i was able to draw... still tender though... for zsasz i was messin around with painting in photoshop. pretty standard, really. and the atom i made him turn into a kid instead of shrinking in size... flash is not amused.

here are my catwoman and captain atom drawings. i know they are really late but i had the flu and now have some sort of cold possibly strep but i hope not and i have been focusing my efforts into not failing out of online grad art school. the captain atom was done entirely in a thing called a sharpie liquid pencil. both of these were done as small thumbnails and then blown up and traced on a light box.

the talia image is all about process. i was experimenting with new ways to color in photoshop. i like this method and i may come back to it. it colors the line work as well, so there not the stark black outline around the figures... sometimes you want that, sometimes you don't... and blue devil is at a blue devil's game... see what i did there...
