robbie vermillion week 4

here are my sketches for week 4. the idea was to do batman for our batman list and wonder woman for our justice league list. i added man-bat to my batman sketch because i believe he is not on our list. other than that i think the sketches are not too shabby this week.

week 4...

batman and wonder woman this week... i did a paul pope kinda thing on batman... wonder woman i have no idea where that came from. i need to draw more women though, i'm rusty...

Wonder Woman-JLA List Week 4

OK, here's my Wonder Woman. I finally found how to do gradients in Photoshop. It didn't really come out the way I wanted but it isn't bad.

Batman-Batman List Week 4

Here is my other Batman drawing. This is for the Batman list. I find it odd that Batman was the fourth one to be drawn on his own list but what the hey. Anyway, as you can see I didn't cheat on this one. I was going for a Neal Adams/Jim Aparo style Batman but it looks more like Ron Lim drew it. Not that there is anything wrong with Ron Lim's work, I actually like it, but it wasn't what I was going for.
I think this turned out pretty good.
PS I drew it with a number two pencil and inked it with a Bic ballpoint pen. I normally ink things with a Sharpie pen.

Here is Aquaman! There is some shading on him but it is hard to see because I picked colors that were a little too close to the base color. I don't know how to make "real" highlights and shadows in Photoshop and so I just made a new layer with less opacity and picked colors in the same family as the base colors.

Anyway, I like it.

Here's Red Robin. This is my least favorite persona for Tim Drake. I liked him better as Robin. Anyway, I tried to do the same thing I did with Aquaman but this time with blacks. I think it looked better on my computer than it does here. There is "highlighting" and "shadows" on his cape, gloves, and mask but they aren't very apparent. I'll keep monkeying with Photoshop and maybe by the end of the year I will actually know how to use it.

aquaman by robbie vermillion

here is my aquaman sketch. he is supposed to be riding on a man sized seahorse made up of a school of seahorses but it looks a little more like a big seahorse shaped wad of coral. also his hands look off and his legs look short but i am still fairly pleased with this.

here is my attempt at red robin. i wish the pose was not so similar to my batman but this was the sketch i found myself gravitating toward.

Howdy.

It appears that I am last to post this week. I blame grad school applications and not the fact that I colored these in Photoshop and I have no idea how to use Photoshop...no, not that reason at all...

Anyway, I feel that these are more like my normal drawing style.
This is Batman for our JLA list.

If you think "Hey this guy cheated! It's just Batman's cape!" or something similar then all I have to say to you is...I cheated. Don't worry though, there will be another drawing of Batman coming up for our Batman and Related Characters list. I promise not to cheat on that one.

And here is Nightwing from the Batman and Related Characters List. This maybe my favorite drawing of Nightwing that I have ever done.

Ok, that's it from this week.

week 2

rushed them a bit this week, didn't have time to add color. but i may come back to them later. i now see that they have similar expressions... i call it the "life is hard and i fight crime" expression

Nightwing-Batman list (week 2) by Robbie Vermillion

this is my nightwing sketch for our batman related characters list. i always have preferred dick grayson as nightwing as opposed to him being robin or batman. this was i believe my third attempt to get a sketch i was remotely satisfied with.

week 1

robin (damian wayne) by robbie vermillion

hello
this is my attempt at the damian wayne version of robin. i am not all that familiar with the character so it took me several tries to get to a version i was remotely satisfied with. still could use some work.

superman by robbie vermillion

this one came pretty easy for me. i have been trying to draw superman more often lately. sorry i probably won't have time to color my sketches for awhile.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Hey this is my attempt at Superman. This is for our Justice League list. Um...I did the same stuff to it as with the Robin sketch.
I was trying to go for a '30s look to him (hence the old school shorts and S-shield) but I ended up with some weird '30s/'60s hybrid.
Neither this nor Robin are done in my normal drawing style.
You'll also notice that Willis and Rob are better at the art than I am...They've had training.
Hey, this is Wes here. This is my first contribution to the blog. This is a sketch of Damian Wayne as Robin. I wasn't sure what his costume was like and the only comic I had didn't have his "official" costume in it. I colored it with Crayola markers. Then I scanned it, fixed it in Photoshop (it was very grey and to get the correct colors, I had tinker a bit), and put it here.
Oh, yeah and it is from our Batman list.
